{Review & Giveaway} The Acropolis - R. K. Ryals

"We have a new assignment for you, Mr. Reinhardt."

These words are not comforting to me. At eighteen, I am a gargoyle who has been demoted because I broke the rules. Now I have a new mission, a new mark to protect. But I don't expect Emma Chase. I don't expect to question my own race. I don't expect to care for my own mark. And I am not prepared for what I find at The Acropolis.

This was an amazing story that was easy to get lost in. The characters are so well written it's not hard feel connected to them. The gargoyle element of the story was different and refreshing.

Conor Reinhardt is a gargoyle, a race of people sworn to protect the innocent, that has been demoted from guardian to escort with a new mission to escort hybrid half human half demon Emma Chase to The Acropolis, a school to train hybrids to control their demon powers. While Emma is unaware of her demonic parentage she is thrown into a world she never knew existed with powers she doesn't understand.

I loved the character development in this story, with Emma especially she goes from literally being afraid of everything to being quite a strong character. While Conor goes from being sure of his role in the world and having a clear view of what is good and what is evil to realizing sometimes the line between good and evil becomes a little blurred.

The story was fast paced with a lot of detail for a book that isn't very long. The ending had a cliffhanger that left me wanting more. The Acropolis definitely goes on my list of favorite books I've read this year.

About the Author
I am a Native Mississippian who started writing in elementary school. I was a reserved child who threw away almost everything I wrote. Later, when I was older, I discovered the crumpled pieces of my work in a box in my mother's hope chest. When I asked her why she saved the work, she replied,
"What you considered trash, I considered genius."
It has been my motto ever since. My mother passed in 2005. She is missed.
I am the scatterbrained (no lie) mother of three, and I live in Mississippi with my husband and three divalicious daughters and a female shitszu (also a diva)named Tinkerbell. My poor husband!
Redemption is a three book series following young, brash Dayton Blainey. The first two books are now available on Amazon.com for kindle and in print.

  1. This sounds really interesting. I don't think I have read anything where the gargoyle is the main character. I am looking forward to reading this. Thanks for the giveaway.
